Volunteer Opportunities
Join our statewide nonpartisan Election Protection Team! We need volunteers for the August 4 Primary and November 5 General Election.
We’re looking for volunteers for the following roles:
NONPARTISAN CHALLENGER - Our nonpartisan challengers monitor the election process at polling places, early voting sites, and absentee counting boards across Michigan. Challengers have the right to challenge the actions of poll workers if the challenger believes that the poll worker is not following the law. Challengers must be registered to vote in Michigan and will be credentialed by Promote the Vote Fund after completing our training. We deploy challengers to communities with a history of voter disenfranchisement and/or issues around voting, so you’ll be working on the ground where Michigan voters need you most.
NONPARTISAN CANVASS MONITOR - As part of the League of Women Voters Michigan statewide program, nonpartisan canvass monitors play a critical role of observing a Board of County Canvassers’ meeting to ensure that the canvassing process proceeds smoothly and the results are certified in accordance with the law. All 83 counties in Michigan have a Board of County Canvassers and the boards are constitutionally required to canvass the election and certify the results. This process happens in the weeks following each election.
VOLUNTEERING ON THE 866-OUR-VOTE NONPARTISAN ELECTION PROTECTION HOTLINE - Hotline volunteers answer live calls from Michigan voters and partners on the ground, providing answers to basic questions and escalating more complicated issues to supervisors. This opportunity is ONLY open to lawyers, law students, and legal professionals.
